Acer Aspire 3 (A315) Full Review

Low maintenance may be required, but it has good features such as AMD Ryzen CPU, SSD Boot drive, and vega graphics, above all it is lightweight.

As for the display, it may be a bit more full and blurry than you’d expect because the 1,366 by 768-pixel resolution isn’t the best one you want to have on a display. Additionally, the touchpad could have been better but it’s not that bad.

Some people believe that the battery time could have been better as well compared to other Acer models. Even if you own an Acer notebook there’s a slight concern about the short battery life, it may have to do something with the features.  The laptop is brooming with tons of features and it makes the machine a bit heavy naturally.

For its impressive computer and graphics, this machine is unbeatable, because this is what you wish to have on your computer.

Acer Aspire 3 review

Design and structure: Acer Aspire 2 with Ryzen prep has a basic black exterior with a plastic enclosure carrying a slighting pattern that is texturized. The lid and keyboard deck is fancy with the pattern.

The logos are etched on the bottom and lid just like many other models, you would also see an AMD sticker or two located underneath the keyboard.  The monochrome design is appealing overall.

The weight of this laptop is only 4.3 pounds, it is a bit light-weight compared to other models and VIVO books which are available on Amazon.

As for the structure, it has more thickness and it is 15 inches wide and more than 10 inches in depth. This is admirable because we all love our computing machines to be durable design-wise.

The thickness is commendable but the plastic is used for the design, which is understandable. The weight has to be under a certain number so it is easy for users to carry it around. The Acer Aspire 3 has a luxury feel, it is adorable as it is sleek to touch.

Sturdy design: More importantly the Acer Aspire 3 is durable and sturdy. This is ideal for those who want to do office work or have a massive pile of writing to do at home.  The display may be a bit full but it is still sturdy as per design.

The display can be adjusted easily for its angle, moreover, it does not wobble at all.  The keyboard deck is a bit curvy as if it is designed inward but you would love to work on it.  The main plus point is it supports your wrist and arm as you type on the keyboard. The keyword feels really strong as you type on it. You won’t feel any pressure at all. Typing on the keys is fast as well regardless of what your speed is.

Key Action and pad: The key action of the keyboard is really comfortable and quiet. You would feel like the Acer Aspire 3 is a friendly laptop for your long-distance traveling as well, just in case you have to work on it midway. Overall, it is responsive and sleek in design. Enough space is dedicated to the number and keypads to align it against the 15.6 inches display. The proportion is just right.

Note: Some users believe that the keypad wobbles a bit even when you don’t click on it. The surface of the keyboard is flimsy as well. However, it all depends on personal experience, overall when you click on the keys it does not take much force to do it.

Display quality: The Acer Aspire 3 has got a nice display and screen. The screen is not touched so definitely to work through your assignments and activities on the computer you may have to use the keyboard and touchpad. However, you may consider attaching a mouse if you want to move the cursor quickly.

No touch screen: The laptop is not for those looking for touch screen support. Since I keep my brightness to the lowest level I have no problems that the Acer Aspire is short on brightness and has a bit of low resolution. I feel comfortable working on it at night because the brightness does not irritate my eyes and for the most part, I can do my work on the same brightness level during the day too.

The native resolution is 1,365 by 768 pixels with more of a retro feel and touch to it.  This panel might not be up to your expectations but it is not bad.

Webcam Quality

The Acer Aspire 3 comes with a great integrated webcam that is optimized for video chat. It offers a low resolution of 640 by 480 pixels which is just so fine, even though it delivers grainy videos but it works fine for those who don’t care much about the video quality during live streams.

Acer Aspire 3 Speakers: The speakers are fine, they are not very good or bad. Audio output is great as well, just the same that you get in most Acer notebook models. This laptop is not designed to play loud music in a dorm or theater room. It could be good for viewing Youtube videos and some movies with your headphones on and when you are seated directly in front of it.

USB Ports: The Acer Aspire 3 does not have updated and advanced style USB Type C-ports just as you wish to have on a modern laptop. It, however, has old-style USB 2.0 and USB 3.0  ports. Additionally, the design carries an HDMI port, an ethernet port, slots for SD cards (located on the left side of the laptop) and a USB 3.0 port.

The USB 2.0 Port is available in the form of a pair on the right side of the laptop. On the same side, you are going to find a headphone jack and a power connector.

Cooling Vents: I love the fact that the Acer Aspire 3 has very nice cooling vents to balance off the airflow in, out, and around the machine. You’d notice that cooling vents seem to be covering half of the bottom structure of the laptop. The large vent is on the back and it covers the back. None of these vents interfere with the portability of the laptop.

The venting is visible though.  It could be because of the RYZEN chip installed inside the system so the design has to be the way it is.

Boot Drive: The Acer Aspire 3 got a nice and solid 256 GB drive that is located on the motherboard. There’s a second drive which is a serial ATA 2.5 inch SSD, it is used for amplifying the storage feature of the machine. You have more RAM and storage upgrades available on the laptop. If you use your machine as an emulator you will love that you can pair a hard drive with a custom-sized SSD and 1TB 2.5-inch drives very easily.

Powerful performance: The reviewers claim that Acer Aspire 3 is much better with its combination of RYZEN 5 CPU, SSD and quad core. Windows won’t take forever in booting up, you can locate the applications quickly without having to wait. Furthermore, this budgeted laptop is excellent with its cooling fan to keep you comfortable around it during multitasking.  There is too much exterior hardware but the laptop is definitely unbeatable when it comes to performance.

Conclusion:

The Acer Aspire s3 has integrated AMD Vega 8 graphic silicon on its RYZEN 5 CPU. It is definitely more capable of performing well compared to most laptops integrated with Intel. Additionally, it scores double that of an intel-based computing system in its performance. It renders 3D scenes easily on the display. Additionally, the machine’s graphical prowess is excellent.

I would not claim that the Acer Aspire 3 is made for gaming but it does deliver good 3D graphics just in case you wish to play a game or two to kill the time. The frame rates may be below 30fps for the gameplay but it will keep you engaged still.

The machine is budgeted with a battery life of 5 hours and 33 minutes.  For the most part, most computing machines run short on their battery life over time with continuous use. This one still has enough life to keep you busy with your tasks without interruption.

I love the fact that it has Radeon Vega 8 graphics along with AMD for the core hardware. The combo significantly boosts the performance. For the price, this 15 inches laptop is a steal. The rackety touchpad may be difficult to work on especially if you use your machine for writing scripts and novels. However, it is still worth it for its features and performance.

FAQs

Is the Acer Aspire 3 upgraded? Can I throw HDD to boost storage while SSD is already in there?

The laptop is not upgradable, you can pair more storage and SSD with it because it is upgraded in that sense. The RAM is better because it is DDR4, Hence better performance even with Windows 10. The window boosts quickly. Additional SSD can be added using the SATA port which is unused.

Does it come with a backlit keyboard?

The backlit keyboard works completely fine even if it is properly taken care of. the LED light under the keyboard is not that durable but it still works provided that you don’t expose it to water and liquid material.

Does it come with Bloatware?

There is no antivirus trial bloatware so you may have to install one yourself from Microsoft. Doing so won’t take much time at all.
